The safety framework —
why it is everything.
The safety framework is paramount in tantric massage — and more generally, in all massage offerings. It allows access to calm without fear of anything. To experience the massage in the most beautiful way — not in a state of defence.
The ritual —
setting the bubble.
Before each massage, a ritual brings the masseur and the person receiving the massage face to face on the futon. In this ritual, the masseur creates a virtual bubble. From that moment on, this bubble represents the space of the massage, encompassing both masseur and receiver. A bubble of safety.
These words are not a formula. They are a commitment — for you, and for me. They create the conditions in which something can truly happen.
Body representations —
and what the framework allows to undo.
In tantric massage, attention is brought to the whole body. No part is given more prominence than another.
This runs counter to our usual bodily schema. We have built our representation of our body with all the injunctions that the various actors in our lives — parents, school, work environment, friends, enemies — have planted like so many gates on a slalom course. Obliging us to go right, to go left, to avoid certain zones. Or to fear others, to lower our heads here, to go faster there, and slower still elsewhere.
Certain parts of our body carry a weight they should not carry. Others remain purely and simply ignored.
The approach to the genital regions is even more complex. It usually plunges us into a context of sexuality — because everything has been done to encode our relationship to this zone of our body in terms of sex. It then becomes complicated to approach them differently, and to prevent the triggering of certain defence mechanisms.
The safety framework is precisely what makes it possible to set these mechanisms aside. To let the body speak, without having to protect itself.
Sexual energy —
what it truly is.
Sexual energy is first and foremost a life energy, mobilisable to energise the body — going beyond the sole function we usually know it for: the activation of the sexual act.
But why is it generally considered a separate energy? In tantric massage, it is common to say that sexual energy is mobilised. If nothing more is said, our usual way of thinking leads directly to this conclusion: it is necessarily mobilised in the direction of sexuality. And in that case, the first safety reaction will be to close all the hatches to prevent any overflow.
Yet it is precisely the opposite that is sought in tantric massage: an alignment of all energies is first sought — sexual energy included.
For sexual energy is an integral energy of our body. It is envisaged as an energy of life, of creation, of opening — rather than being reduced to its sole space of sexuality, the space in which the West systematically confines it. It is particularly interesting to visit it, just as one visits the other energies. To see what it is, to dialogue with it, to open it. To make it an ally.
Kundalini and the chakras
Tantra, like other approaches, aims at the awakening of the kundalini — usually represented as a serpent coiled in the sacrum, which awakening will cause to uncoil. This unfolding connects it to the different chakras of the body, allowing the free circulation of energy.
The 7 chakras — reference points
From the base of the spine to the crown of the skull, the 7 chakras mark the energetic axis of the body. From the root chakra — seat of the kundalini, link to the earth — to the sacral chakra, centre of sexual energy and relationships, then the solar plexus (ego, self-esteem), the heart (love, forgiveness), the throat (expression, creativity), the third eye (intuition), through to the crown chakra which connects us to the Universe. In this cartography, sexual energy is neither set aside nor overvalued. It is simply considered as one of the major energies of our body.
